R.A.C.E. Academy is a learning process for organizations or programs to address equity through respecting, protecting, and fulfilling a sense of dignity, especially for people of color. It is a workshop designed to give participants the skills to navigate choppy waters. The curriculum is radical because of the intentional focus on addressing the root components of human engagement: personal and collective dignity. The goal of this process is to understand, interpret, and analyze how a person’s dignity may be affirmed or denied through the work of an organization or program.

R.A.C.E. Academy addresses the internal and external experiences of an organization’s staff and clients. This framework:

a) centers dignity as a mutually reflected sense of worthiness between individuals, groups, and their communities that deserves recognition and accountability;
b) interrogates and challenges interlocking systems of oppression from global and local viewpoints; and
c) holds both the individual and the collective responsible for creating and sustaining equitable communities at all levels of engagement.

R.A.C.E. Academy is a process that addresses multiple levels of organizational and program impact simultaneously through a cohesive framework for critical thinking and engagement. Through participation in R.A.C.E. Academy, members will have a chance to explore biases, privileges, and cultural humility through dignity.

About the Presenter

dr. monique inez liston is the Founder, Chief Strategist and Joyful Militant at UBUNTU Research and Evaluation. UBUNTU Research and Evaluation was founded by dr. monique liston as a space to hold her dissertation research findings while protecting Black women’s intellectual thought, leadership and vision. UBUNTU is a Bantu term that loosely translates into English, “I am because we are.” UBUNTU was chosen because it is a word that represents the core principle of UBUNTU as an organization while connecting us as members of the global displaced African diaspora. Protecting the dignity of all Black people with Black women and femmes at the lead is UBUNTU’s priority. UBUNTU was founded on January 1, 2017, Dr. John Henrik Clarke’s 102nd birthday, intentionally chosen to memorialize our intellectual genealogy within pan-africanconsciousness.

dr. liston is an experienced facilitator, evaluator and program designer with over 15 years of experience in the fields of leadership, education, and public health. She is proud alum of Howard University with a BA in Sociology and the University of Delaware with a Masters in Public Administration.
