The CE designation is the only professional title identifying professional evaluators.
The designation means that the holder has provided evidence of the education and experience required to be a competent evaluator. It is a service provided by CES to its members, who may elect to become credentialed on a voluntary basis. It recognizes competence and promotes continuous learning within our community.

There is growing recognition of the complex moral and ethical tensions associated with evaluation practice. However, there are scant evidence-informed frameworks for cultivating ethical awareness or informing ethical deliberation across the evaluation landscape. Thus, we aimed to synthesize research evidence on evaluation ethics, and draw on these findings to develop an evidence-informed evaluation ethics framework.

I read the book and did not count those hrs. I drafted the review days before I posted it (because you will see I posted 2 reviews on the same day - posted on amazon under my pseudo name 'qcridder'. I forgot to mention this latter point in my previous book review submission). I feel it is a reflective practice competency to serve as a review and hopefully gain new methodological ideas. This comprehensive text bridges evaluation theory with diverse practical applications, emphasizing social justice and the transformative paradigm. Mertens, Hall, and Wilson guide readers through the entire evaluation process—from philosophical foundations to reporting—ensuring programs are assessed through lenses of equity, cultural responsiveness, and rigorous methodological standards.

How about really shaking up the foundations of Evaluation practice? In this initiative, we believe that changing practices begins with changing concepts and understanding contexts, bringing new (and not at all new) ontologies, to change epistemologies and transform methodologies.

Learning and Networking
I was initially interested in the Credentialed Evaluator (CE) designation. However, I decided to join in 2017 after reading about all the benefits of membership on the CES website.
CES membership has benefitted me in a number of ways. First, completing the CE designation has been an important part of my professional development, as it framed my thinking around evaluator competencies and evaluation standards. Second, the Canadian Journal of Program Evaluation is an excellent resource and a frequent go-to for the latest publications in the field. Third, I have participated in several CES National Conferences, which I find both accessible and great learning and networking events. Lastly, I’ve been able to stay in touch with the evaluation community through various CES initiatives, including the Mentorship Initiative and the Student and Emerging Evaluator Network (SEEN).
