YOU Can Contribute to the Review of the Federal Policy on Results

Since late 2022, the Treasury Board Canada Secretariat (TBCS) has been working on the planning and conduct of a review of the 2016 Policy on Results. A webinar on the review and associated contributions took place on May 25; a recording of it is available online (as well as the French captions, the English captions, and the various decks). The review is based on a discussion paper but we, at the CES, and the Treasure Board want your input into the review, whatever your feedback or concern is.

The CES has set up a feedback form for you to provide input into the review. You will be asked to describe your feedback and then to classify it according to four dimensions. This classification will help us summarize and understand the feedback received more efficiently. We hope to include your views and to add them to the messages that we will have heard during the special 2023 CES Conference session on the review of the policy that will take place at the conference on June 20 starting at 4pm.

We intend to analyze your input and to represent CES members’ voice in the Fall 2023 PPX colloquium as well as in exchanges with the TBCS.

For reference, the “TBS Policy on Results sets out the fundamental requirements for Canadian federal departmental accountability for performance information and evaluation, while highlighting the importance of results in management and expenditure decision making, as well as public reporting” (quoted from the policy). It took effect on July 1, 2016. It replaced the following Treasury Board policies: the 2019 Policy on Evaluation (which was evaluated in 2015), the 2007 Policy on Reporting of Federal Institutions and Corporate Interests to TBS, and the 2010 Policy on Management, Resources and Results Structures.
