Editor-in-Chief, Canadian Journal of Program Evaluation

The Canadian Evaluation Society (CES) invites applications and nominations for the position of Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Journal of Program Evaluation (CJPE) for a renewable three-year term, beginning in Summer 2025.

CJPE is the official, peer-reviewed journal of the CES, dedicated to the theory and practice of evaluation in Canada and internationally. It publishes articles in both English and French that reflect the diverse perspectives, disciplines, and sectors engaged in program evaluation.

About the Role

The Editor-in-Chief plays a vital leadership role in shaping the Journal’s editorial direction, upholding its academic standards, and ensuring its continued growth and relevance. The Editor-in-Chief works closely with the CES Associate Editors, Editorial Board, and the Journal’s publisher.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic vision and leadership for the Journal

  • Oversee the peer-review and editorial process for all submissions

  • Recruit and collaborate with Associate Editors and reviewers

  • Promote the Journal to authors and readers across evaluation communities

  • Uphold high ethical and scholarly standards

  • Work with the publisher on journal production and distribution

  • Submit annual reports to CES


 

Qualifications

  • Tenure-track position at a Canadian University

  • Recognized expertise in program evaluation

  • Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals

  • Experience as an editor, associate editor, or reviewer

  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and reconciliation in scholarly publishing

Term and Support

The term is three years, with the possibility of renewal. The CES provides administrative support and an honorarium to be used for course release. The incoming Editor-in-Chief will receive a handover and orientation period with the outgoing Editor to ensure a smooth transition.
