Two updates to CE designation policies

CES has updated two CE designation policies related to competencies 1.1 and 1.3, and membership requirement.

New CE Professional Learning Requirement

Starting Dec 31, 2026, Credentialed Evaluators (CEs) will be required to complete 4 hours of targeted learning for each of the two mandatory CE competencies (1.1 and 1.3) as part of their 40 hours of professional learning every three years to maintain the CE designation.

  • Competency 1.1 - Knows and considers the application of evaluation theories and models and stays informed about new thinking and best practices.
  • Competency 1.3 - Integrates the Canadian Evaluation Society's stated ethics in professional practice and ensures that ethical oversight is maintained throughout the evaluation.

These requirements are intended to ensure that all CEs maintain a shared, current foundation in evaluation theory and ethical practice, while continuing to pursue broader professional learning aligned with their individual practice contexts.

CE Application Change

As of Sept 1, 2026, interested CE applicants must be CES members to start, work on, and submit their application within the applicant portal. Previously, the Professional Designations Program (PDP) policy stated that you must be a CES member to hold a CE designation, but not that you have to be a CES member to apply for the credential. All application materials will remain available to everyone (members and non-members) on the CES website, so interested applicants may start their preparation anytime. However, to begin and submit your application through the CES web portal, a CES membership will be required.
