Following our successful in-person gatherings in 2026 and the upcoming 2027 conference in Ottawa, the Canadian Evaluation Society (CES) announces that the 2028 CES Annual Conference will take place on an entirely virtual platform.
This strategic decision is driven by our commitment to reducing our ecological footprint and ensuring broader accessibility across the evaluation community. Long-distance travel across Canada and internationally generates significant carbon emissions. By shifting to an online format for 2028, the CES aims to minimize environmental impact while leading sustainable practices within evaluation associations.
Furthermore, a virtual format dramatically improves financial accessibility for participants. Eliminating travel, accommodation, and per diem costs allows students, non-profit professionals, emerging evaluators, and delegates from remote as well as far-away communities to participate without financial barriers.
While we recognize that virtual platforms cannot fully replicate the rich face-to-face networking and informal connections of an in-person event, we view this as an opportunity to innovate. We actively invite our members, partners, and the broader evaluation community to submit ideas to help us reimagine and enhance digital networking for C2028.
Together, we can cultivate a greener, more inclusive future for evaluation in Canada.
