Rethinking the CES Board Structure: Join a Member Town Hall

CES has grown a great deal over 45 years, and the Board is proposing a renewed structure to match: one built for how the Society works today, and designed to better serve members. Because these changes aim to improve CES National's work and coordination with chapters, it is important that every member has the opportunity to be informed about and shape this process.

Below, you will find links to:

Together, these documents propose to re-design CES National Board around the work that members report are most important to them. Practically, this means eleven Board positions defined by portfolio (in contrast to today’s twenty-four positions), including dedicated roles for the Credentialed Evaluator program and the CES Annual Conference. The President and Vice-President would continue to be elected by members, and all other roles would be filled through open calls, with Chapters and National co-selecting candidates.

For chapters, a single representative seat on the Board of Directors would give way to stronger, more direct connections: a “College of Presidents” with defined decision rights and entitlements, including approval of any change to how funding is allocated to chapters (or similarly impactful decisions), and robust portfolio advisory groups and initiatives that link chapter volunteers more directly with work happening at the national level (e.g., Professional Learning, Engagement and Membership, Core Values, the Advocacy Task Force, e-Institute operations, and so on).

Please join us to discuss these proposed changes at a town hall. All members are welcome to three virtual town halls on Zoom:

Each session will run for one hour, and will centre on your questions and views. Following a brief overview of the proposed changes, we will listen to questions and comments from members in attendance. Sessions will be recorded for internal use only so that we capture your input accurately.

Prefer to write? If you cannot attend or would rather not speak on a recording, please feel free to send your written comments no later than October 31, 2026. You may also get in touch with CES Executive at gp@evaluationcanada.ca. We would like to hear from any and all members with an interest and/or investment in how the Society is governed.

What happens next? Everything that we hear from town halls and other consultations we have been doing this year will continue to shape the final proposal, which will be shared with all members one month before the General Meeting in December. Members will ultimately decide, through a vote, on the proposed changes there.

We look forward to hearing from and talking with you about this proposal. Please don’t hesitate to be in touch, and hope to see you there.

Sincerely,

Matt Sanscartier, PhD, CE
