The C2026 opening keynote speaker, Eriel Tchekwie Deranger, has just returned from the Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels climate summit in Colombia. On May 3, she spoke with CBC’s Laura Lynch about the summit and the need for global Indigenous voices to be heard in the climate challenge. Here is the summary of the interview: "Nations gathered in Colombia to chart a path to a cleaner future. Many say this ‘coalition of the willing’ could speed the transition away from fossil fuels. But there are those who say that Canada’s lack of ambition will mean we’re left behind in the switch to renewables. And others who say global Indigenous voices still don’t have enough sway in the climate fight."
