Local activities

On behalf of the AB/NWT Chapter and C2026 social committee, we’re so glad you’re here

We have planned several social activities as part of the conference program and hope you will join in the fun. If you find yourself with some extra time outside of the conference when you’re in Edmonton, here are some of our favourite things to do and see.

Follow us on LinkedIn and meet our local board members. We hope you have a fantastic conference and get a chance to explore a bit of our city during your stay.

  1. Whyte Avenue - a local gem for cafes, thrift shops and theatre! If you happen to be here Saturday or Sunday, the Old Strathcona Farmers’ Market is located just off Whyte Avenue in a historic brick warehouse.
  2. Happy Beer Street - branching off 99 Street you’ll find a local beer lover’s paradise. While you're there, stop in at Kind Ice Cream and Magpie Books on 76th Avenue.
  3. 124 Street - art galleries, cafes, amazing restaurants, and local shops line this stroll. Pop into The Dutchess Bakeshop for one of their famous macarons or Delavoy chocolate for a decadent hot chocolate.
  4. The river valley - did you know Edmonton’s North Saskatchewan River Valley is 22 times the size of Central Park? You can access this slice of nature from many points, including the Funicular at 10065 100 St NW, which is close to the conference venue.
  5. Edmonton Art Gallery and Royal Alberta Museum offer world class experiences just steps away from the conference venue. Enjoy an afternoon of art and/or natural history at these venues.
  6. Fort Edmonton Park - travel through time at this outdoor park where Alberta’s history comes to life. While you're there, make sure you visit the Indigenous Peoples Experience and ride the steam train.
  7. Edmonton ICE District - Home to Rogers Place, the ICE District is Edmonton’s main sports and event hub. The energy during the playoff season is unmatched. Bring your Oilers jersey!
  8. Local live theatre - so many choices. A few of our favourites: Rapid Fire Improv, Grindstone Theatre, Varscona Theatre, Citadel Theatre, and so much more. If you have a spare night, it's worth checking out the local scene.
  9. While Edmonton has so many hidden gems to offer, our list would not be complete without mentioning West Edmonton Mall. Yes, the hype is true! Our local claim to fame does have a water park, mini golf, and even a pirate ship. Can you visit Edmonton without going to The Mall?
