Rebuilding the Toolkit Together: Improv Principles for Adaptive Evaluation

Tuesday, May 26, Rapid Fire Theatre

This interactive keynote introduces improvisational practices as practical additions to the evaluator’s toolkit, supporting work in complex, values-driven environments. Participants will explore how improv strengthens shared ownership and trust in group decision-making, deep listening, positivity and momentum (using “yes-and” to move work forward without losing rigour) and resilience and adaptability (staying effective when assumptions, contexts, or power dynamics shift). In this setting, improv is framed as a disciplined, repeatable practice rather than performance. Through low-risk small group exercises, live demonstrations, and discussions participants experience how these tools support equitable collaboration and sharper, more salient evaluative insight.

Rapid Fire Theatre is a professional improvisational theatre company based in Edmonton, known for sharp, playful, and highly interactive performances and workshops. With decades of experience on stages, in boardrooms, and at conferences, Rapid Fire uses improv as a practical tool for building connection, adaptability, and collaborative problem-solving.
