Free CES Webinar – Using Art in Creative Data Collection and Evaluation- April 15, 2020
In this webinar, we share techniques for integrating art into the data collection phase. We specifically highlight three techniques: drawing, collage, and block sculptures. First, we highlight the different forms, functions, and advantages of each technique relative to specific evaluation contexts and questions. We walk audiences through specific steps for engaging participants in arts-based activities. Then, we explore ethical considerations to ensure respectful and responsible engagement. Finally, we share strategies for soliciting buy-in from stakeholders and funders. For those interested in learning more about arts-based data collection and knowledge translation, we leave audiences with points to ponder and go-to resources.

Different Participatory Approaches in Evaluation

For the last fifteen years, Valéry Ridde has had the chance to use participatory approaches to evaluate programs (e.g., in Quebec or Afghanistan), to develop research actions (e.g., Burkina Faso), and more recently to mobilize the experiential knowledge of implementers of policy (the ‘policy makers' according to Lipsky) in Africa and analyze their processes.
