The C2021 conference was a perfect occasion to reflect on the work of John Mayne, a Canadian evaluator who not only helped develop the foundation of systematic evaluation in Canada, but contributed to advance the theory and practice of evaluation globally. A thread that runs through the many writings of John Mayne aligns well with the concept of ‘Evaluation utilization’, the theme of the 2021 CES conference. A tribute video prepared by ten Canadian and international Evaluators who knew John’s work was presented at the conference, during the Closing Panel of CES Fellows.

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of CJPE Editorial Board Member John Mayne.
