A new article, Question Order Experiments in the German-European Context by H. Silber, J. Höhne and S. Schlosser in Survey Methods: Insights from the Field investigates the context stability of questions on political issues in cross-national surveys. Three replication studies were conducted with undergraduate and graduate students to test for question order effects. In all three studies, question order effects were detected with the authors concluding that when answering a subsequent question in a question sequence, the preceding question seems to have functioned as a standard of comparison. According to the authors, the empirical findings also suggest that context effects can be reduced by testing for question order effects and implementing questionnaire design strategies to mitigate these effects.
The journal Survey Methods: Insights from the Field is an open-access journal that publishes articles on a monthly basis.
