Webinar focus
Harry Cummings has been doing consulting with a focus on evaluation for 50 years and this webinar draws on that experience. He is joined by Don Murray who has worked with Harry for the last 20+ years.
The webinar covers topics such as: what skills do you need, how do you get started? How do you find new clients? Client communications; the important elements of a proposal.
Most importantly, we will give you the opportunity to ask all the questions you have thought about but have not had a chance to answer.
The webinar should be of interest to those with experience and many unanswered questions as well as those just starting.
We will cover:
Skills - research and analysis methods, communication, writing, time management
- Finding and retaining clients
- Proposal writing and preparing budgets
- Team development and management – scoping the work, recruiting external expertise where applicable, delegating responsibility, establishing/negotiating per diems, etc.
- Business set-up/structure – incorporation, full-time employees, network of associates, working in central office vs. working remotely, accounts management, liability insurance, etc.
Biographies of presenters
Harry Cummings
Harry Cummings, RPP, CE has a PHD in Geography. He has worked for the University of Guelph (professor of planning), Government of Canada, University of British Columbia (in Indonesia), and Woods Gordon Consulting. Currently he is self-employed as the Director of Harry Cummings and Associates Inc (6 employees) which he established in 1982
He is past president of CES and served as treasurer of the International Organization for Cooperation in Evaluation. His consulting and evaluation work has been diverse and has involved international development, health, mental health, health professionals, agriculture, rural development, planning and economic impact assessment. He supervised over 100 masters and PHD students.
Donald Murray
Don Murray, MSc., CE is a senior evaluation consultant at Harry Cummings and Associates where he has served as the project lead / principal researcher on over 50 research and evaluation projects. His work experience extends across a variety of domestic and international government and not for profit agencies / organizations in a variety of sectors including health, education, social services, and natural resources.
