2021
Building on the dedication, hard work, and a multitude of projects completed by numerous chairs and members of the Sustainability and DEI Working Groups over the years, on February 4, 2021, the CES National Board approved the creation of a new Standing Committee that will strengthen CES’ approach to social responsibility, and to incorporating the guiding principles of sustainability and diversity, equity, and inclusion into CES operations and governance, in response to the CES 2019-2024 Strategic Plan.
The new standing committee will carry on and evolve the good work of the current working groups. This new governance structure will enable CES to be more accountable, responsive, and coordinated in its approaches and commitments to these guiding principles.
Stay tuned for more information about our transition plan from the existing Working Groups to the Standing Committee. CES’ next steps are to host an organization-wide consultation to craft the terms of reference (including roles and responsibilities) and land on a name for the new standing committee that align with the needs of CES’ stakeholders.
CES thanks all volunteers past and present who have spent their time advocating for, advancing, and completing work either as part of the Sustainability and DEI Working Groups, or through their work with chapters, conferences, boards, or committees.
